How to get MMID Code from a bank?
The customer needs to have a bank account with a net banking facility to use the instant payment service IMPS. To avail of this service, it is necessary to have a mobile number registered with your bank account. If your mobile number is not registered with the bank account, then, first of all, you should get your mobile number registered with the bank accounts. Both online or offline means can be used to link the mobile number with the bank account.
When you get your mobile number registered with your bank account, a 7 digit unique MMID code will be issued to you by the bank. With the help of this 7 digits unique MMID code, you can transfer funds instantly from one bank account to another using the IMPS tatkal payment system.
The first 4 digits of the MMID code are the unique identification number of the bank associated with your bank accounts from where the customer has got their IMPS service. If a customer has more than 1 account in the bank, then the bank will issue him a separate MM ID for each account. MMID code is a combination of your bank account and mobile number. One can find out by which bank it is issued by looking at the MMID number.
Different banks offer different facilities to generate MMID codes for their customers. Some banks automatically issue MMID numbers to their account holders as soon as they register their mobile numbers. Some banks issue 7 digit MM ID numbers to the customer on request through SMS service or net banking. It depends on the particular bank that the facility to generate MMID code is provided to its customers.
What is the requirement of MMID Code?
In the present digital age, one can transfer funds from one account to another in real-time using the facility of RTGS and NEFT through net banking using any person’s bank account and IFSC code. But the facility of transfer of funds through RTGS and NEFT is not provided by the banks 24*7. Due to which customers are deprived of transferring funds anytime and from any place.
Presenting a solution to the customer’s situation, banks have introduced a new mode of payment, IMPS. IMPS was designed as an instant payment system because two persons cannot have the same mobile number. Hence this concept has been used for successful fund transfer in MMID technology.
Bank account holders’ mobile numbers are often linked to bank accounts, so the mobile number linked to a bank account can be used to identify an individual and their account number. On this basis, transfer of money is possible even without knowing the customer’s bank account number.
But the biggest problem faced by the inventors of this system was that the account holder’s mobile number could be linked to more than one bank account. In that case, how will the system identify the exact account number through the mobile number?
To solve this problem, the concept of creating a unique number by combining mobile number and bank account number came to the fore, where this concept is known as the MMID concept. Under this concept, a 7 digit unique MMID is created by combining the mobile number and the account number. One MMID can be used for only one bank account as each customer’s bank account has a different MMID.
Thus, if a customer is using the same mobile number in more than one bank account, then with the help of MMID, the exact account can be found. Based on this concept, MMID has made the instant payment system IMPS a successful mobile banking platform.
How to transfer funds through MMID Code?
Earlier, bank account numbers and IFSC codes were required to transfer funds. Still, under the MMID concept, the MMID code created by combining mobile number and account number has replaced the account number and IFSC code of the payer.
If a person knows the mobile number and MMID code of another person, then he can transfer funds to his bank account. The MMID code can be used only when a customer wants to transfer funds using the IMPS platform.
If you want to transfer funds from one account to another using the MMID concept, follow the steps below.
Step 1: First of all, download the mobile banking app of your bank on your mobile phone with the help of the Google Play Store or App Store.
Step 2: Open the Mobile Banking App and log in to your account using the login credentials.
Step 3: After that, go to the “Fund Transfer” section with the help of navigation. When will “IMPS” appear in which section of Fund Transfer?
Step 4: Select the tab “IMPS” or “IMPS Through MMID.” After this, enter the person’s mobile number to whom you want to transfer the funds and the account number along with the MMID code.
Step 5: You can also add a beneficiary as Payee. After this, the process of fund transfer starts.
Step 6: During the fund transfer process, verify the transaction using OTP or mPIN.
Step 7: As soon as the transaction is verified, the money will be debited from your account, and within a few seconds, it will be credited to the beneficiary’s bank account.
Step 8: As soon as the successful transaction process is completed, you will be notified through SMS with the Transaction Reference ID.
Step 9: Make sure to note down the reference number for future reference. The most beautiful thing about this concept is that even without internet connectivity, the customer can use the IMPS service to transfer agricultural funds.
Step 10: In this way, any person can transfer funds from their bank account to another bank account with the help of MMID in a few seconds by adding the beneficiary.
The digital age is fast approaching the peak in which new concepts of transacting through the online are emerging. IMPS is becoming increasingly popular in these concepts. Due to the popularity of this concept, it can be said that shortly, this concept will completely replace RTGS & NEFT. Because sending money through IMPS is more convenient and easier. To transfer funds under this concept, the customer only needs an MMID code and mobile number.
